Bob & Ellen's Excellent Adventure

Black Sheep Tower House

Summer Hiatus

July 30, 2022 Summer along the New England coast is incomplete without a view of sunshine glittering on the ocean, lobster rolls, brisk drives with the windows open, lazy afternoons, and ice cream, of course! Bob was able to spend a week in NH and we made the most of it. Not much happening with the house, so we did some relaxing…

A highlight was the Downeast Region’s Porsches in the Park car show to benefit the local Dempsey Center, held in Bug Light Park in South Portland, Maine. This annual event supports actor and Porsche racecar driver Patrick Dempsey’s foundation to provide free support to people managing the impacts of cancer in the area of Maine where he was raised. Typically he attends to chat with the Porsche owners who attend, but this year he was unfortunately filming on location in Ireland (oh darn). We drove Lanu, our Talbot Yellow 912E – the bright color was just the thing!

It was a perfect day, with bright sunshine, blue skies with puffy white clouds, and jewel-colored Porsches on the grass to accent the gorgeous water views. We re-connected with quite a few Porsche friends and acquaintances we hadn’t seen in years, which was a treat! I even came home with a great framed print from the collection of an old friend which had been donated to the silent auction to benefit the Dempsey Center.

Only in New England would you find both a kayak AND a bike on top of a Porsche 911… California and Florida can have their boring surfboards. 🙂 Too soon, our vacation from our “vacation” was over and Bob had to head back. But before he left, we had to sample the UNH Dairy Bar’s ice cream one more time! Yum. We love the old train station, which in addition to a great lunch/ice cream stop, is still a stop on the Amtrak commuter line from Boston to Portland.
