Bob & Ellen's Excellent Adventure

Black Sheep Tower House

Big Day on Sheep Road!

September 21, 2020 7:15 AM – the roofers were here! A van and a truck disgorged a crew of about 10 workers, and they wasted no time setting up. Tarps everywhere, a ladder with lift to the peak, more ladders, it was awesome. By 8 AM they were up there stripping the old shingles and shoveling them into the dumpster.

8:16 AM – The crane truck shows up to install the septic tank. Randy arrives. Woot! By 10:30 AM we were feeling hopeful that on this day magic would happen.

Meanwhile, out front this was the scene at 9:00 AM – the road side of the garage stripped and ready for skylights, the shed roof being stripped as seen from the bedroom window, and the middle garage and lab roof already partially finished. Look at these guys walking around the ridge lines like nobody’s business. It was like watching a kind of graceful dance, weaving and walking by each other on a high wire, where each partner knew the others’ every move. Here is a 20 second video clip that shows these guys at work – https://youtu.be/MlUc-u-XXXI

Inside we were looking up and out. A good amount of chaos was happening. Bob had to take a chair to the unfinished new house to hear his concalls. Sydney was in heaven with all the new people around to sniff.

We are thrilled with the difference the skylights make! So much more light coming in! They crank open and have screens, and are just low enough that a short person can reach the crank. 🙂 It is like a whole new world in the apartment, we LOVE windows to the outside spaces.

Finishing up the last of the shingling. These guys (and one gal) were terrific pros. It was fascinating to watch their teamwork, the guys on the ridgeline would slide the shingles down to the nailer perfectly, bam bam bam, and then the next would arrive in the next perfect spot, bam, bam, bam. They were done and cleaned up by 6 PM. Check out the super video of them walking the bundles along the ridge tops to the adjoining roof, and I have finally figured out the best way to post videos in the blog…. I am learning as I go. Have patience. So, anyway, what a day!!! Oh, yeah. We have flush toilets! Woot woot!
